We've
become accustomed to hearing about wineries springing out of old
tobacco farms in the area, but a department store on a busy village
street? Welcome to Old North State Winery - a big surprise tucked
into an average storefront on Main St in downtown Mount Airy. The
first and most obvious question is - where are the vineyards? Old
North State has over 200 acres of vines all belonging to 38 independent
growers who have formed a co-operative to produce and market their
collective wines under the 38 Vines label.

State Winery. |
The
second question would be, where is the winery? When you enter the
building you see a beautifully appointed retail shop, tasting bar
and a new restaurant. You'd never guess that in the back room there
is a state of the art wine production facility. With grapes coming
from so many different locations around our state, you can be sure
that these wines will have a flavor and complexity that is truly
unique.
